More about this place

Tripitos, also written Trypitos, occupies a headland about three kilometres east of Sitia. Remains of a Hellenistic settlement include defences, houses and a rock-cut shipshed. This was a place of trade and everyday coastal life, where the sea view had a practical purpose.

It can add depth to a history-focused Sitia day once access has been clarified. Identification with a particular ancient city remains uncertain; the surviving evidence is more useful than a confident label.

Keep to permitted visitor paths. Do not climb old walls or scramble over coastal rocks towards the shipshed. Leave potsherds and other possible finds in place. The location does not establish a recommendation for swimming or underwater exploration.
