How this place fits into a Crete day
West of Sitia, Agii Pantes offers a manageable walk with plane trees, springs, fossils and a literary connection to Kornaros. The roughly 3.5-kilometre georoute rewards attention to smaller details rather than one dramatic viewpoint. Navigation is not always obvious, and heavy rain can change the route: plan your return and take suitable maps.

More about this place
Agii Pantes brings together things that do not often appear in one eastern-Crete walk: plane-tree shade, seasonal water, marine fossils and a route from the Skopi area towards Faneromeni Bay. The georoute is around 3.5 kilometres long, with published descriptions allowing about two hours and twenty minutes.
Two small springs lie along the way. One is associated with Vincenzo Kornaros and the writing of parts of Erotokritos. Water from the Skafidaras can form a wetland near the gorge exit. The appeal is not a single dramatic feature but the shifting mix of geology, greenery and cultural history.
The traverse is described as relatively easy, but it remains a natural path rather than a guaranteed family circuit. Navigation is not always obvious, and winter water or heavy rain can change the conditions. Plan it as a point-to-point walk with a return or transport, carry water and suitable mapping, and verify the current route.
Before you set off
Getting there
Point-to-point route from the Sfakidia/Skopi area towards Faneromeni Bay. Roughly 3.5 km and about 2 hours 20 minutes. The route is considered relatively easy but is not obvious everywhere; an offline map/track and enough water are sensible. Check water levels and passability after heavy rain.
Parking
Depending on direction, plan vehicle logistics between the Skopi start area and Faneromeni. Do not assume this is an automatic loop.
