More about this place

Green Spiliotissa Gorge lies between Houdetsi and Agios Vasilios, south of Heraklion. The local walking project describes a path from Houdetsi across a wooden bridge to Panagia Spiliotissa Monastery: about 500 metres each way, or roughly one kilometre returning along the same path.

The connection between both villages is a longer option. For a short visit, you can focus on the monastery path. That leaves time to notice the vegetation and religious setting without turning every outing into a circuit.

The map marks the monastery within the gorge, not a driveable entrance. Ask about the condition of the path and bridge, especially after rain, and confirm monastery access. Respect closures and the quiet setting. The streambed is not an alternative route.
