More about this place

Agios Nikitas brings together a cave monastery and a pebble beach below it on the Asterousia coast. The remote setting is as much part of the visit as the church itself. It suits a deliberately planned outing combining religious history and coastal scenery.

The approach from Achentrias is described as a long, rough gravel road. Around 230 steps then lead down to the sea, with the climb back still to come. Confirm access and vehicle suitability and bring water and sun protection. A beautiful beach is no reason to improvise the return.

Respect the religious setting and private areas. At the shore, wind, waves and local conditions determine whether to swim. Reaching other coves by scrambling or swimming is not part of this recommendation.
