CRETE UNSEEN decision

How this place fits into a Crete day

Skiadaki is a very remote Asterousia cove, with rock scenery, natural shade and underwater terrain that may appeal to experienced coastal travellers. Access and return are demanding, with no normal road connection. Crucially, Kakoperatos Gorge is technical canyoning terrain, not a simple walking route to the beach.

More about this place

Skiadaki lies on the wild Asterousia coast near the Kakoperatos area. This small cove is primarily reached by suitable boat or via a demanding coastal approach. High rock walls provide shade at certain times, and the rocky underwater terrain may interest experienced snorkellers.

Remoteness is also the central constraint. There are no normal road connections or dependable facilities. Kakoperatos Gorge itself is not an ordinary hiking path: it contains technical passages and is described as canyoning terrain. A beach outing must never turn into an assumed shortcut through the canyon.

Choose the cove only if you have deliberately prepared your access, equipment, supplies and return. Leave a vehicle only at a legal, safe starting point; there is no parking at the beach. If you want an uncomplicated swim or the sea conditions are unclear, choose a more accessible coast.
