More about this place
Tylisos, also spelled Tylissos, lies west of Heraklion. Its archaeological site preserves three substantial Minoan residential complexes. According to the official Hellenic Heritage site, key phases belong to the second millennium BC; finds including remarkable bronze vessels point to the settlement’s importance and links with Knossos.
If Knossos makes you think of crowds and grand narratives, Tylisos offers a different perspective: less spectacle and more attention to buildings and everyday life. It is not an interchangeable replacement for Knossos, but a worthwhile experience in its own right. A little background about the plans helps the foundations become easier to read.
Reach the site via Tylisos and check visiting hours, last admission and holiday exceptions directly with Hellenic Heritage before travelling. The operator lists parking and toilets, without guaranteeing a space or step-free access. For specific access questions, contact the site on +30 2810 831498.
