More about this place
Elyros occupies Kefala hill southwest of Rodovani in inland Selino. The ancient town belonged to the Oreioi federation and had maritime connections through Lissos and Syia. It suits travellers who want to understand western Crete beyond its beaches.
Expect an archaeological landscape rather than a fully staged museum visit. Read a little about the town first and leave time to look around: collecting ruins is not quite the same as understanding them. Elyros makes more sense within a Selino stay than as a rushed detour across the island.
Current access arrangements and a continuous visitor path still need confirmation. Visit only with access clarified and sufficient daylight; bring sturdy footwear and water, and respect barriers. Do not assume there is a signposted circular trail.
