Getting to Azogires Village

Azogires lies inland from Paleochora and is reached by the village road. Start with the settlement itself. Check opening and access separately for the monastery, museum and caves.

Parking at Azogires Village

Use only locally permitted parking. Keep driveways, property entrances and sensitive natural ground clear; no parking space is guaranteed.

More about this place

Azogires is a small mountain village above Paleochora where local history and landscape sit closer together than at a conventional viewpoint stop. The village is associated with the tradition of the 99 Holy Fathers, a remarkable old plane tree and a stone bridge; caves and longer walks in the surrounding area are separate outings and should not be silently folded into a short village visit. In an ordinary day plan, Azogires therefore works best as a slower inland stop with local history rather than as a catch-all for every attraction in the valley.
