How this place fits into a Crete day
Anemi brings food and wine together with an evening overlooking Matala Bay. If you do not want another drive after the beach, this is somewhere to linger, particularly in the evening light. The appeal is the combination of setting and cooking, not just a quick plate between stops. Ask ahead if a particular sunset table matters to you.

More about this place
Anemi sits directly on Matala Beach. By day, the sea is close at hand; later, the bay opens towards the evening light. If you have come to Matala for its beach and caves, this is somewhere you can bring the day to a close without driving on for dinner.
The food is intended to be more than a quick break between beach hours. The restaurant describes a season-led, modern approach built around Cretan produce, seafood and dishes suitable for sharing. According to the house, chef Zinonas Christofidis favours clear flavours and careful preparation. The wine list is said to offer more than 50 labels, with a strong Greek focus. Menus and selections can change, so check any specific preference directly with the restaurant.
Anemi suits a Matala day when a meal or a glass of wine is part of the experience in its own right. Think a late lunch, or a longer evening around golden hour. Allow enough time: a leisurely dinner is not the same as a quick drink. If you have a particular sunset table in mind, confirm opening and reservation arrangements in advance; published hours may vary seasonally.
Drive to Matala by the normal road, then cover the last stretch on foot through the beach and pedestrian area. The beachfront location does not mean there is parking at the restaurant door.
