CRETE UNSEEN decision

How this place fits into a Crete day

For a wild-west day built around coves and snorkelling, Damialis is the missing puzzle piece: close to Kissamos and on the way towards Falassarna, rather than demanding another major detour. Small, distinctive and practical — Crete Unseen in compact form.

On the ground

More about this place

Damialis sits directly on the Kissamos–Platanos/Falassarna axis, making it especially useful as a short west-coast stop: a small cove, deeper water, rocks, some natural shade and, according to the local tourism site, shelter from north-westerly winds. Facilities are minimal; that is why it works better as a deliberate 60–90 minute stop than as an all-day beach.

Good to know

Before you set off

Getting there

Drive to the access point at Agios Ioannis tou Damiali church. A short path from the churchyard goes through the tunnel beneath the road to the cove. The water becomes deep quickly, so plan accordingly for small children and less confident swimmers.

Parking

No large beach car park is promised. Around the church, park only where legal and without blocking access; if the area is full, choose another stop rather than inventing a parking space.

Bring supplies and check current conditions before swimming.
